Bob Walters Promoted to Chief Engineer

June 24, 1998 – Bob Walters, Assistant Chief Engineer for Design, is being promoted to Chief Engineer at the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department effective June 24.

Walters began his career with AHTD in 1972 in the Engineering Orientation Program. Upon completion of the program, he was assigned to the Roadway Design Division as a Civil Engineer II. He assumed the duties of Assistant Section Head of the State Financial Projects Design Section in 1975 and was promoted to Division Head of Roadway Design in 1979. He promoted to Assistant Chief Engineer for Design in 1987.

He has a Masters Degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in Civil Engineering, is a Registered Professional Engineer and a member of the Arkansas Academy of Civil Engineers. Walters is active in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) currently serving as a member of the Subcommittee on Design and the Task Force on Metrication. He is Chairman of the Task Force on Geometric Design and Vice Chairman of the Joint Task Force on Pavements. He was named recipient of the AASHTO Region II Design Award in 1989 and received the AASHTO Highway Subcommittee on Design’s National Award for Outstanding Service in 1993.

Walters and his wife Trudy reside in Little Rock with their two children, Amy and Aaron.
