One Block Section of Highway 7 to Close in Russellville

June 9, 1998 -- The repair of a drain under Highway 7 in downtown Russellville will close a one block section of that road for approximately one week, according to Dan Flowers, Director of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD).

A contractor for the AHTD will close the highway before 4:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15 to install a new culvert under the roadway between Main Street and Second Street, weather permitting. A detour route utilizing Highway 64 and Highway 7T will be in use.

On April 2, 1997, an old rock arch drain passing under Highway 7 between Main and Second Streets collapsed causing the highway to be closed while temporary repairs were made. Those temporary repairs made by AHTD crews allowed the roadway to remain open until more permanent alterations could be made. The Highway Commission, on April 1 of this year, awarded a $133,954.40 contract for installation of the new drain to Mobley Contractors of Morrilton.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for travel through the affected area. Caution should be exercised when traveling through this or any highway construction work zone.
