Notice to MediaPublic Meetings Scheduled for Springdale Northern BypassJune 22, 1998 The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department is preparing an environmental impact statement on a proposal to improve east-west traffic movement through Springdale, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers. The proposal includes providing a four-lane, divided, fully controlled access (interstate type) highway located on new alignment. The approximate length is 17 miles. This facility would serve northern Washington County and southern Benton County, including Springdale, Tontitown, Bethel Heights, Elm Springs, and Lowell. A series of three informal "open house" Public Meetings will be held to offer people an initial opportunity to participate in the development of the need and the location corridor for the proposed project. The Department wishes to obtain public comments, concerns, and suggestions on the locations of each of the proposed corridors and their social, economic and environmental effects. The enclosed map illustrates the overall study corridor. Aerial photographs and other exhibits will be available for public inspection and comment. These will show specific corridors in greater detail. All interested persons are invited to drop-in from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to ask questions and discuss issues.
