I-40 Construction to Cause Mayflower Ramp Closure

LITTLE ROCK (5-27) – A contractor for the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) will begin reconstruction of the eastbound main lanes of Interstate 40 at Mayflower beginning Wednesday, June 2, according to Dan Flowers, AHTD Director.

The construction project will necessitate closing the Highway 89 on-ramp in Mayflower starting at 9:00 a.m. The ramp will reopen the following morning by 6:00 a.m. Portions of the main eastbound lanes will also be closed to facilitate the construction. Motorists should use the easternmost Mayflower on-ramp as an alternate access to the eastbound lanes of I-40.

Freshour Construction Co., Inc. of Cabot, Arkansas was awarded a $15,185,047.72 contract for the six-mile project. The work is expected to be complete by Fall 2000.

Motorists may want to use Highway 365 as an alternate route or allow extra time during the project period.
