Lanes to be Closed on I-30

LITTLE ROCK (8-18) – A project to repair an overhead sign on I-30 between the Arkansas River Bridge and the I-630 interchange will cause temporary lane closures Sunday morning, according to Dan Flowers, Director of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD).

The lane closures are necessary to replace an overhead sign that was destroyed in the January 21, 1999 tornado. Beginning at 6:00 a.m. Sunday, August 22, the outside westbound lane on I-30 will be closed to allow the work to take place, weather permitting. At some point during the morning hours, all four westbound lanes will be closed for approximately 15 minutes while the contractor positions the overhead structure across the interstate.

At the same time, a lane closure will take place in the eastbound lanes between the Cantrell Road onramp and the north side of the River Bridge. This will allow the contractor an opportunity to begin preliminary preparation for the replacement of the overhead sign on the River Bridge that was destroyed when a truck boom hit the previous sign. Both projects will conclude by 12:00 noon on Sunday and all travel lanes will be open.
