Highway Department to Hold Meeting on Scenic Byway Designation


LITTLE ROCK (7-5) -- The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) will host a public hearing on Thursday, July 12 concerning the designation of sections of Highway 4 and Highway 1 in Desha County as part of the Great River Road Scenic Byway, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers. 

The 53-mile route covered by this proposal includes Highway 4 from McGehee east through Arkansas City then north to Highway 1, and Highway 1 north through Rower, Kelso, and Watson to Highway 65 at Back Gate.  The meeting will begin at    6:30 p.m at the Desha County Courthouse, 608 Robert S. Moore Avenue, in Arkansas City. 

The public hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for interested persons, agencies and organizations to express their views regarding the proposal.  During the hearing Department personnel will be available to answer questions concerning the Arkansas Scenic Byway designation.  All interested persons will be heard at the public hearing.
