Notice to MediaHighway Department Extends U.S. 62 ProjectLITTLE ROCK
(7-18) – A
proposed improvement project on Highway 62 has been extended by the Arkansas
State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD), according to AHTD Director
Dan Flowers. The Department held a public involvement meeting last
summer at the Rogers Municipal Airport to discuss the proposed widening project
along U.S. Highway 62 from State Highway 94 to the southern city limits of
Avoca. Approximately 80 local citizens visited the session where a preliminary
design was available for public consideration and comment. “A primary concern of those attending the meeting
was an extension of the highway widening through Avoca in order to relieve
congestion and safety problems along U.S. 62 inside the city limits,” said
Flowers. The proposed project will now upgrade a portion of
U.S. 62 beginning at the intersection of U.S. 62 and State Highway 94 in Rogers
and ending north of the Avoca city limits. The length of the project is
approximately five miles. The existing four-lane roadway from State Highway 94
to U.S. 62B will be overlayed and re-striped to provide a five-lane roadway. No
additional right-of-way will be required for this section of the project. The existing roadway east of U.S. 62B consists of two
12-foot lanes with 10-foot shoulders. Proposed improvements to the urban section
call for widening the existing roadway to four 11-foot travel lanes with a
12-foot center turn lane. #####
